This giant has been built by a German manufacturer named "Krupp" and It took almost 5 years to design the machine and manufacture with a cost of more than $100 million.
The World's Largest Digging Machine is almost 95 meters high and 215 meters long which is just like almost 2.5 football fields in length with 45,500 tons in Weight. Maximum digging speed is 10 meters per minute and it can move more than 76,000 cubic meters of coal, rock, and earth per day.
The man power, and the cost in the construction field have been able to really reduce with a high efficiency, due to these kind of top-class, massive machines. This digging machine is currently using, mainly in field work at coal mines and rocky arias.

man, I am so conflicted. That thing was obviously designed to tear apart the Earth with no regard for the ecosystems in which it was deployed.

why didn't the video show this awesome machine in motion? it's just the same pictures that are posted in the article on this site and they pretty much copied the entire thing on cracked. i checked youtube and because you didn't say the actual name of this fantastic piece of technology i couldn't find any videos of it actually digging. i wanted to see this thing tear the earth a new asshole.

This is known as a bucket-wheel excavator, which may help to find other examples, photos, etc.
I saw a documentary about this machine in the German TV as they moved one of these thingies to another mining area (that's why it's crossing the highway in the pictures).
Some more info on it: The company building these is actually called ThyssenKrupp, in Germany there currently are about 25 of these excavators in brown coal mining areas.
They are powered electrically and take up to 20.000 kW.
I grew up next to this opencast mines, there a some in germany of this kind as mentioned before thyssen krupp in western germany, the east germany mines had machines from takraf - these are just tiny one compared to the biggest one:

TAKRAF produced 5 of them. 3 are still working, one is being restaurated and the other one is open for tourists ;)
